Documentary Films
We produce and distribute documentary films that put the realities of hunger on screen — turning a distant statistic into a story audiences can’t look away from.
Global Survival Inc works to end hunger by telling its story — producing and distributing documentary films and advocacy that turn public awareness into action.
Every person, everywhere, with reliable access to enough nourishing food.
Hunger persists in a world that grows more than enough food. What’s missing is not supply — it is sustained public attention and the will to act. Global Survival Inc exists to change that.
We produce and distribute documentary films that bring the realities of hunger to a wide audience, and we advocate to keep the issue in front of the public and decision-makers. Our work turns a distant statistic into a story people can’t ignore — and moves them from awareness to action.
Founded in 2001 and recognized as a 501(c)(3) public charity, Global Survival Inc is governed by its leadership with full accountability to the public we serve.

Leigh Wharton1924 – 2017 · Founder & Documentary Filmmaker
Global Survival Inc was founded by Leigh Wharton (1924–2017) — a British-born Royal Air Force pilot in the Second World War who became an actor and, later, a documentary filmmaker devoted to the world’s humanitarian crises.
Over his career Wharton directed more than 30 documentaries on poverty, survival, and hunger across the developing world, built on first-hand reporting from the ground rather than distant narration. His film Edge of Survival (1982) received the World Hunger Media Award for its unflinching portrait of famine and human resilience.
Global Survival Inc carries that work forward — using film and advocacy to keep hunger in the public eye until it ends.
Global Survival Inc is a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Our full legal identity is published here for donors, grantmakers, and verification partners.
